Reflections on Sausage Supper 2016

Yesterday was St. Paul's annual Sausage Supper. The weather was fabulous. That is a blessing considering that the past 2 years the weather was terrible. It was in 2014 that we had to cancel the Sausage Supper because of bad snow and ice. 2015 we had the supper bu served quite a few less meals than usual because people didn't want to get out in the snow. This year the sun was out, the temps were warm. Even as the clouds rolled in during the late afternoon, it was nice. The men who were in the cooking shed appreciated the weather, I am sure.

This year's supper was a success. Why? Was it because of the number we served, which was the 2nd highest number that is recorded? No it wasn't. That was a blessing we received from the Lord in being allowed to serve that many meals (1287). Yet I do not count that as the reason it was a success.

What made the day such a great success was the working together that took place. From the kitchen to carry outs to pie table to dining room to clean up to seating to selling tickets to cooking sausage to the book fair, there were so many people working together, smiling, laughing, working, getting tired, sharing the joy of Christ and spending time together as Christian brothers and sisters. I rejoiced as I looked around and saw the wonder of Christian fellowship at work. It was apparent to me that there was a sense of Christian love in the midst of everything that was going on.

That fellowship and love was shared with the people that came in and supported the dinner as they enjoyed the meal. We welcomed so many people into our midst yesterday. As you watched people enjoying the meal, it made the heart feel good. As people walked out, smiles on their faces and compliments on their lips, it made it all worthwhile. Folks left happy and full. What more can you ask?

I thank each and every one of those 1287 people who enjoyed a meal - either in the gym or wherever they ended up eating their meal from the carry outs. I thank each one of the workers who gave their time getting things ready in the days leading up to the dinner, during the day of cooking, serving and cleaning, and afterwards as things were cleaned up. Thank you for your time, your effort, your work and your smiles.

Most of all I thank that Lord for blessing us with this opportunity to serve the Sausage Supper. He is the One who gave us the weather, the willing workers and the hungry eaters. All thanks be to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
